Following a hugely successful event in 2012, the Karrimor Great Trail Challenge will returned to Keswick on 9 June 2013. Already established as one of the biggest events of its kind in the North of England, the event attracted thousands of runners and walkers to the trails around the historic market town with new 11km and 22km distances suitable for anyone from walkers to experienced runners.
Participants and spectators had the opportunity to see world-class mountain runners compete in the Home Countries International match. Senior and junior athletes from England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland also competed over the 11km distance.
Trail running is growing in popularity across the UK and Karrimor’s continued support of the event shows the brands ongoing commitment to their new range of trail running footwear, clothing and accessories as well as the extensive range of rucksacks, walking boots and outdoor clothing.
Peter Gostling, marketing manager at Karrimor said: “The Karrimor Great Trail Challenge is a great event for both novice and experienced runners and walkers who are looking for a new challenge in a beautiful setting. Expertly organised by Nova International, we look forward to another successful event for 2014.
“Karrimor launched a new range of footwear specifically designed for Trail Running in 2013, alongside our tiered ranges of running gear emphasising our ongoing commitment to the growing interest in trail running across the UK. We hope that our accessible ranges of footwear, clothing and accessories, will allow more people to get out and enjoy the great outdoors. Whether participants prefer to walk or run the Karrimor Great Trail Challenge provides an excellent opportunity for people to have an achievable goal to train for.”
Peter Riley, project director at Nova International said, “We were overwhelmed by the positive response from participants and locals to both the 2012 and 2013 event, and are excited about bringing the Karrimor Great Trail Challenge back to the Lake District.
“The event is a great day out, giving the public the chance to watch top athletes compete against each other in the Home Countries International Match, take advantage of local food and entertainment and of course to take part in the event themselves.”
The Royal British Legion has been selected as Karrimor’s nominated charity for 2014, recruiting members of the armed forces to compete against each other in the Team Forces Challenge. The charity provides practical, emotional and financial support to all members of the British Armed Forces past and present, and their families.
The event is open for entries at www.greattrailchallenge.org and participants will receive a medal, Karrimor Great Trail Challenge t-shirt, finisher’s pack and accurate chip timing.
